Who Am I?

Hello,

I’m Marianne, a jack of all trades originally from the Netherlands, who has been living in Germany since 2012. I moved to Germany to study a double Masters to specialize in Archaeometallurgy, and moved on to a PhD position in Archaeology where I learned Ceramic Petrography (studying minerals in pottery under polarizing microscope, to determine provenance and technological choices).

This built on the passion I discovered for gemmology during my goldsmithing studies in Schoonhoven (the Netherlands) between 2002-2005. Studying archaeology was a dream come true for me, and I’m grateful for the positive experiences I’ve made.

I’ve always found enjoyment in serviceable and creative work, and have previously been self-employed as a clothing designer. There my motto had also been “Clothing to (re-)create history”. I’ve always enjoyed working on topics that have to do with history, memory and social ties.

In March 2024 I sat down behind the jewellers’ bench in earnest for the first time in 19 years, having only done small-scale projects in the intervening periods in-between despite having had two different jeweller benches in that time. The idea for my small business and the name came on May 1st, 2024 - and on the 2nd of May I registered my business in Germany.

I really enjoyed getting back to goldsmithing and having creativity flow freely again. I constantly scribble small drawings in a booklet, and a few weeks later most of them have taken physical form. I draw a lot of inspiration from my love for the natural environment and the seasons, and this will remain an underlying theme next to more specified collections.

For instance, I’m now working on a collection called “You’re an extension of the power that created the universe”, a quote by RuPaul., This will include a galaxy locket, a men’s ring (with black opal) amongst other things. This theme will include astronomy as well as metaphysical themes and stones that are UV-reactive (for the most part). I hope to have that ready by April/May 2025, whilst working on my seasonal jewellery (I love celebrating the seasons, and I have more ideas for springtime jewellery).
